Once you successfully pass the AMC Part 1 you can start applying for a medical role. Most doctors prefer not waiting until they complete the Clinical Examination.
However, you must sit for an English Language Test to be eligible for Limited Registration through the Standard Pathway in order to apply for a position.
There are minimum requirements for the various English Language Standard tests that you can do. For instance, if you sit the IELTS you need to score 7 or above in all four domains of this test. This is because your ability to communicate will be determined by your language proficiency. For a fuller explanation of the English language test, see here.
Moreover, you might have to be patient and persistent till you secure a position since you will be one of the big pool of candidates who’ll apply with only the AMC MCQ exam.
What posts can you apply for?
Resident medical officer (RMO) is the most common job type that will be available for you to apply. The role is often advertised at times during the year when hospitals have had vacancies in their ranks. The RMO position is usually a role that is 1 year advanced than the intern role.
When looking for any job, a key search term would be “eligible for registration”.
Also, having a good resume, establishing networks to identify ad hoc job vacancies, flexibility to work outside of the major cities and being well-prepared for job interviews can help you increase your prospects of getting a job.
