To become an ED doctor, you need to

  1. finish secondary school
  2. complete a medicine degree
  3. get a relevant work experience
  4. apply for FACEM (Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine),
  5. consider other options such as ACEM (Australasian College for Emergency Medicine) /EMD (Emergency Medicine Diploma)

To have the emergency medicine specialist training, ED doctors must have completed 24 months in prevocational training. ACEM training contains provisional training that should be one year, half of the months for ED and other approved training, and 4 years of advanced training.

 

To complete the emergency medicine specialist training programme ACEM training doctors should complete a 12-year period, a maximum of five years and 10 years may be taken to progress from provisional training to advanced training and fellowship. The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is an incorporated educational institution. Its major objective is to train and examine specialist emergency physicians for Australia. To be an emergency medical doctor you must be highly skilled and must maintain good clinical performance.
